A Proven Athlete Who Became a Breeding Bridge

Attack Z belongs in this Hall of Fame for two connected reasons: he performed at the highest level himself, and his daughter carried his blood into one of the most important Olympic stallions in Noah's direct sire line.

Foaled in 1980, Attack Z was a grey, Hanoverian-registered stallion standing 167 cm. International pedigree records list him as a 1.60-metre showjumper and a stallion licensed by the Belgian Warmblood studbook.

His place in the story is exact. Attack Z was the sire of Iliona van het Carelshof. Iliona then produced Parco by Darco. Parco sired Branco van Overis, and Branco sired Noah. Attack Z therefore reaches the Warmblood Horse Sales breeding programme through a clear, documented maternal route.

Almé Above Him — Furioso xx Behind His Dam

Attack Z united two foundation influences already central to this Hall of Fame. His sire was Almé, while his dam brought Furioso xx back into the pedigree through Urioso Z.

Almé was by Ibrahim out of Girondine by Ultimate xx and became one of the defining sires of international showjumping. Attack Z was one of the sons through whom that blood reached later Belgian breeding.

The bottom half matters just as much. Undine Z was by Urioso Z, a son of Furioso xx. Attack Z therefore joined the Almé–Ibrahim sire line to another of the great Thoroughbred foundation lines behind the modern Warmblood.

Why Attack Z Is Recorded as Hanoverian

The “Z” in his name and the “HANN” in his registration are not a contradiction. They describe two parts of a breeding history that developed at different times.

Attack Z was bred within the Zangersheide performance programme in Belgium, but pedigree registries record him under Hanoverian number 276331316537480. The formal Studbook Zangersheide was not founded until 1992 — twelve years after Attack Z was foaled.

Before the separate Zangersheide studbook existed, horses bred through Léon Melchior's programme could be registered with an established studbook while still carrying the familiar Zangersheide identity in their names. That is why Attack Z should be described accurately as a Hanoverian-registered stallion associated with Zangersheide, rather than having one label forced to replace the other.

The distinction is important on a historical page. A suffix can identify a breeding programme; it does not by itself prove the studbook printed on a horse's original registration.

Attack Z at the Olympic Games

At twelve years old, Attack Z represented Brazil with Vitor Alves Teixeira in the showjumping competition at the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games.

Individual Competition

The official final classification records Vitor Alves Teixeira and Attack Z in equal 50th place. They did not advance to the individual final.

Team Competition

Brazil finished 10th. Attack Z and Teixeira contributed 23 penalties to the recorded team result across the two counted rounds.

The result should be presented honestly. Attack Z was not an Olympic medallist, but he was an Olympic competitor at the highest level of international showjumping. Reaching Barcelona in a field filled with horses such as Classic Touch, Ratina Z, Quidam de Revel, Darco and Big Ben is the achievement that earns its place in his record.

That Olympic appearance also prevents Attack Z from being reduced to a name buried on the dam side of a pedigree. He had first proved the athletic ability himself; the breeding influence followed.

Iliona van het Carelshof Made Attack Z Essential to Parco

Attack Z's most important role in our own pedigree came through a grey Belgian Warmblood daughter foaled in 1985: Iliona van het Carelshof.

Iliona van het Carelshof was by Attack Z out of Eleomore by Donnersberg. Bred to Darco, she produced Parco in 1992. That makes Attack Z Parco's maternal grandsire — the stallion immediately behind Parco's dam.

Iliona's value was not confined to one offspring. International pedigree records also identify the 1.60-metre jumper Qui Voila d'01 and approved stallion Maestro van de Heffinck among her offspring. The mare transmitted performance, and the cross with Darco produced the horse who carried this branch into Olympic history again.

Attack Z sits on the maternal side of Parco's pedigree. This is the exact point where the Almé line enters the direct sire family of Noah.

From Barcelona 1992 to Athens 2004

Twelve years after Attack Z competed at Barcelona, his grandson Parco reached another Olympic Games and finished equal fourth individually at Athens with Ludo Philippaerts.

The Direct Route from Attack Z to Noah

Attack Z is not an unrelated famous name added for decoration. The line can be followed without a missing generation from Almé to horses living today at Warmblood Horse Sales.

The AES pedigree of Noah records Branco van Overis as his sire, Parco as Branco's sire, Iliona van het Carelshof as Parco's dam and Attack Z as Iliona's sire. That official chain is the reason Attack Z is part of our own breeding story.

The Maternal Name That Explains the Whole Sire Line

Famous sires dominate most pedigree conversations, so it is easy to move from Darco straight to Parco and overlook the mare and damsire that completed the cross. But Parco was not Darco alone. His dam was Iliona van het Carelshof, and Iliona's sire was Attack Z.

That single relationship brings together Almé, Furioso xx, an Olympic competitor in Attack Z and an exceptional producing mare in Iliona. It then continues through Parco and Branco van Overis into Noah.

Attack Z therefore represents exactly what the Warmblood Horse Sales Hall of Fame was built to document: not a list of famous horses, but the verified route by which their performance blood reaches the horses we know and breed today.

Follow Every Generation from Almé to Noah

Research cross-checked against FEI Olympic records, the Barcelona 1992 results, HorseTelex pedigree and performance records, Studbook Zangersheide history, the Parco stallion record and the official AES pedigree of Noah. Where public databases disagree or do not provide primary confirmation, uncertain claims have been omitted. The Warmblood Horse Sales connection is traced through Attack Z → Iliona van het Carelshof → Parco → Branco van Overis → Noah.
