Ragazzo

The Hanoverian stallion who carried the blood of Raphael and Ramiro Z into proven dressage sport — and forward again into the living maternal line behind Noah.

A Stallion Who Joined Two Performance Worlds

Ragazzo's pedigree began with one of showjumping breeding's great foundations, yet his own career and many of his recognised offspring belonged firmly to the dressage arena. That is what makes him such an important bridge within Noah's maternal family.

Raphael, Ramiro Z and the Strength of Pirola

Ragazzo was bred in Germany by Günter Pape. His sire was Raphael, the Westphalian son of Ramiro Z. Through that direct male line, Ragazzo carried one of Europe's most influential jumping foundations.

His dam was the renowned Hanoverian broodmare Pirola, by Pik König. Pik König was a son of the Thoroughbred Pik As xx, bringing refinement and a recognised dressage-producing influence into the pedigree.

The result was not simply a collection of famous names. It was a horse combining strength, movement, rideability and the ability to develop through serious sport.

The Numbers Confirmed the Horse

Ragazzo was first licensed in 1992. In 1994 he completed his stallion performance test at Neustadt/Dosse and emerged as the overall winner. His results showed that his ability was not limited to one narrow discipline.

129.34 Overall Index · Test Winner
133.1 Dressage · Second
115.3 Showjumping · Sixth

Those results describe the same dual quality seen in his pedigree: dressage movement and rideability, supported by genuine jumping blood rather than replacing it.

From Riding-Horse Classes to Intermediaire I

Ragazzo developed through the levels to Intermediaire I.

Ragazzo began competing in riding-horse tests in 1993. From 1995, Heiko Münzmaier developed him from the lower levels through to Intermediaire I.

This matters to his story because Ragazzo did not remain only a pedigree stallion. He proved trainability, longevity and the capacity to progress through advanced dressage work.

His career demonstrated how the power behind Raphael and Ramiro Z could be channelled into balance, collection and rideability — qualities still relevant when examining the maternal line carried by Noah today.

A Dressage Influence Proven Through His Offspring

Ragazzo's descendants reached international and advanced dressage, while others distinguished themselves in young-horse competition.

Ragazzo Is Not a Distant Name — He Is Part of Noah

Ragazzo's importance to Warmblood Horse Sales is not based only on his own record. His blood continues through Raphaela, the dam of Noah, and through every son and daughter Noah has produced.

Ramiro Z → Raphael → Ragazzo → Raphaela → Noah

This is the living sire-and-dam story carried forward at Warmblood Horse Sales: a Ramiro Z grandson who proved himself in dressage, then became part of the maternal foundation behind an AES licensed stallion and the generations bred from him.

A Stallion Remembered for More Than Results

Ragazzo was remembered by those who cared for him as a true stallion with presence, yet exceptionally kind, patient and willing — a horse who continued giving to people throughout his life.

After standing in Germany and Sweden, Ragazzo later lived in Great Britain. Hartpury College first received him on loan in 2006 and acquired him in 2008, where his patience made him especially valuable around students.

He died on 16 April 2014, shortly after his twenty-fourth birthday. His story remains present through his sport record, his offspring and the living bloodline that reaches this yard through Raphaela and Noah.
